What's Going On Here

My children, Liz and Alex, claim that I am full of aphorisms on living, that I "always say" this or that. At first, foolishly, I disputed their claim, not believing I was capable of anything like a sustained, coherent view of the world. But as they reminded me of things I "always said," I came to realize that I did, in fact, have a lot of "rules of the road" that I had acquired along the way, some from my mother (pictured at the left, holding me) some from the school of hard knocks, and some that spring, Athena-like, fully-formed from my head.
